DAIRYING MAHERS
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S INTEREST TWO VALUABLE TROPHIES. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 5. “ Further evidence of the keen interest taken by ins Excellency the GovernorGeneral in dairying matters is given by his generous offer of two handsome and valuable trophies for cheese exhibits at the National Dairy Show, to be held in London in October next and in succeeainof years,” states Mr C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture. “ One of these trophies is given for the best cheese produced in any Empire country, and the other is for the best cheese among the entries from New Zealand alone. This latter New Zealand trophy is to be regarded also as a district prize to be associated each year with the district in which the factory producing the winning exhibit is situated. Thus, while the factory will have full credit for having produced the best the honour will be shared by the district, and it is hoped that a spirit of emulation in producing high quality cheese will be engendered throughout the whole area _ as' well as between the individual factories. It is proposed that for the purposes of this competition the districts should be: (1) Auckland), (2) Taranaki, (3) Wellington and Hawke’s Bay, (4) Canterbury and Otago, and (5) Southland. It is understood that a considerable number of exhibits from New Zealand will be sent to this year’s show, and his _ Excellency’s action, which is most highly appreciated, is sure to increase to a great extent the interest of the entire dairy* ing community Id. results.”
