Ministerial, The Minister of Employment (Mr A; Hamilton), accompanied by Mr Walter Bromley, a member of the Unemployment Board, and Mr F. M. Sherwood, his private .secretary, will arrive by tbe express from the north this afternoon and will stay at the Grand Hotel. On Monday the Minister will receive several deputations. 1 ! Hargest, M.P. for Invercargill, arrived in Dunedin by the express from the south yesterday afternoon. Messrs R. Bauchop and R. M. Strang, of Invercargill, are at present visiting Dunedin. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr C. H. Treadwell, of that city, has been appointed president of the New Zealand Law Society in succession to the late Sir Alexander .Gray. Mr A. H. Johnstone (Auckland) will succeed Mr Treadwell as vice-president.' Miss Zenocrate Henderson . and Mr A. F. T. Charlton, representing Victoria College, will arrive,from Wellington this evening to take part in the.Joynt Scroll Debate, which is to be held on Tuesday next. Mr T. R. Buxton, who has been a member of the John M'Glashan College -staff for over five years, will leave for England to-day. At the assembly yesterday morning the staff and pupils gathered to bid him farewell. The principal (Mr C. M. Gilray) presented him with a travelling rug as a parting gift from the staff, and the senior monitor, on behalf of the pupils, presented him with a wrist watch, and wished him every success in his future career. Mr Gilray paid a warm tribute to Mr Buxton, thanking him for his services in the classroom, in the house, and on the field. After three cheers had been given for Mr Buxton, the latter thanked the donors and expressed his regret at severing his connection with the college. ‘ . , ■ The judges at the festival of the Dunedin Competitions Society will be as follows: —Dancing, Miss Gwen Gibbs (Palmerston North); music, Mr H. Temple White (Wellington); and elocution, Mr W. Russell-Wood (Auckland). Mr Russell-Wood, after judging at Dunedin, will leave for Australia to act as adjudicator in the elocution, oratory, debating, and drama classes at the fortysecond Grand National Eisteddfod pf Australasia, to be held at Ballarat, Victoria, in October. It is customary for judge* to be brought from England and other countries for the National Eisteddfod, and seldom has a New Zealander filled the position. Many people now famous at Home and abroad in the literary and musical world have been competitors at Ballarat, and the eisteddfod has been the starting point of many a great career. A long and distinguished line of patrons is headed by the King and the Prince of W ales.
