LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE Thirteen members attended the executive meeting of the Otago Council of the League of Nations’ Union. The president (the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse) welcomed two members who were present, for the first time, namely, Mr L. G. Cronin and Dr de Moncheaux. The first item on the agenda was the report by individuals relative to their success iii the membership drive. The result, though encouraging, called for renewed efforts by all members if the desired result was to be achieved. The Youth Committee reported that it proposed to invite the history teacher from each secondary school to strengthen and expand the work of the committee, and several’plans for approach to the young people were under consideration. —These suggestions were approved. The hon. treasurer (Mr Frank Taylor) stated that the financial outlook had improved, thus permitting the immediate payment, of local demands, .Further accounts for £8 7s 6d were passed for payment. From the Dominion Executive came several resolutions on matters pertaining to the League itself, which resolutions were carefully considered by the Otago Council, Two were favourably received, namely; (a) Against the policy of the British Government to retain the use of aerial bombing for the control of the remoter parts of the Empire; (b) favouring the regulation of the manufacture of primary war equipment, and control of export of war material, the control to be exercised equally by all Governments. These two resolutions would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
