ST. MARY’S CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING. ' ‘J ;' The annual meeting of parishioners of St.' Mary’s Parish', Mornington, was held on Wednesday evening, when a large gathering was presided over ,by the vicar (the Rev. F. Vivian Fisher). In giving a resume of the. year’s activities, the vicar said that all the parochial organisations were doing splendid work, enumerating the vestry, the Ladies' Guild; the Mothers' Union, the Sanctuary Guild, the, G.F.S., the Sunday school and the Bible classes. Of the lastnamed there were now three, with a total membership of about • 40. He made special mention of the newly formed Missionary Committee, started during the year, whose efforts he was proud to state made it possible for him to announce that' they had reached their mission quota of £SB, a splendid effort. He warmly thanked all who had laboured so well to make these organisations function,so efficiently. In thanking the choir (Mr J. H. Aldridge, organist and ch drmaster), the vicar made special mention of the excellent rendering of Stainer’s “ Crucifixion ” during Holy Week. The churchwardens’ report showed that all possible economic measures had been adopted, but still, on account of the stress of times, the vestry had found it necessary to make arrangements for a temporary loan of £IOO. This enabled it to finish the year with a credit balance. , ■

As usual the vestry was greatly indebted to the Ladies’ Guild for substantial financial assistance.

The meeting unanimously approved the vestry’s action, and a “penny scheme - ’ for the liquidation of the temporary loan was explained by Mr F. Holderness, and launched at the meeting. The vicar announced that the arrangements for the jubilee, which would commence on Saturday, August 26, were well in hand and outlined the programme. It was necessary to elect trustees to take the place of the original trustees of the Durham street property, only one of whom survived (the Rev. Canon Statham), who wished to be relieved. The following were appointed;—Messrs S. P. Mirams, E. L. Birt, W. Boyd, F. Holderness and A. Digby Smith. It was resolved to send a letter of greeting and appreciation to Canon Statham.
