NEW ZEALANDER’S FALL
MR JOSEPH KAY

LONDON, May 26. From Yorkshire comes news of the tragic death of Mr Joseph Kay, 64, a retired road surveyor of New Zealand, who arrived in England two yeaxs ago and who was thinking of returning to Christchurch. , , . , On May 18 Mr Kay’s body was found at the bottom of Bentley quarry, near Kirkbymoorside, Yprkshire, by Miss Emily Dunning, of Fadmoor, who, on noticing a brown paper parcel and a stick, looked over the edge of the quarry and saw a man lying dead 30 feet below. BMe called a farmer, Mr J. Cussons, of Hagg Farm, and he informed the police, ihe body was identified by Mr John Kay, ot Rainton, near Ripon, brother of deceased. Dr Curry, of Scarborough, deputy coroner, held an inquest on May 20. Mr John Kay, builder, of Rainton, said he last saw his brother seven weeks ago. He was in good health and mentally normal, and had never threatened to commit suicide. He was expecting to go back to New Zealand, where he had three He was in receipt of a pension. Recently he had lived at Redcar. Dr I. R. G. Galloway, of Kirbymoorside, found a punctured wound at the back of the man’s skull, penetrating right through into the brain. This could have been caused by a fall on a sharp piece ox rock. Apparently lie had fallen backwards.
P.C. Barr said the deceased had on a gold watch and chain, but only lOd in money was found on him. The jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death.”
