EVEREST EXPEDITION
OBJECTIVE NOT REACHED PARTY TO BID RECALLED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, June 28. The Daily Telegraph announces that the Mount Everest Committee has decided to recall the expedition. No doubt the expedition is anxious to go on, but the committee feels that it is not justified in allowing it in view of the enormous strain the men have undergone in the last eight weeks. The danger of avalanches, the difficulty in keeping the porters together during the weeks of waiting, and the fear of high winds and snowdrifts alone suffice to prevent climbing after the monsoon. There is no blinking the fact that the party failed to reach its objective, but is retreating; in good order.
