SAWYERS’ BAY NOTES
SCHOOL CONCERT. An enjoyable concert was given by the pupils of the Sawyers’ Bay School on Wednesday evening to an appreciative audience. The public hall was filled to the doors, and the entertainment proved one of the most successful financially held for many years. The items were as follows: Garden song, infants; recitation, “Ranger,” Sid Mitchell; “Dame Durden’s School,” a playette, “The Blind Men and the Elephant,” Archil O’Neil, Ewan A "new, Stanley Harkness, Norman Agnow, Howard Ellwood, Harry Broadley; minuet, junior girls; “The Doll’s Geography Lesson ” Elsie Patterson, Ngaire Pratley, Alice Mitchell, Elsie Skilbeck; “The Mermaid’s Song,” junior girls; ball drill; “Old Man River,” senior division; physical drill, girls. Mr R. D. Poison, chairman of the School Committee, in proposing a vote of thanks, thanked the teachers and pupils'for the fine results produced. Mr L. R. Ellis returned thanks on behalf of the teachers and pupils, and also thanked all those who had so willingly assisted in the preparation of the stage se’enery. An enjoyable dance followed. BLIND MISSIONARY. During the present week the Blind Soldier missionary, Mr Andrew Johnston, has conducted well-attended missions in the Methodist Church. Mr Johnston, who is a fluent and able speaker, impressed his hearers by his bright, intelligent, and cheerful delivery.
