A bonspiel was commenced yesterday morning on the Oturehua irrigation dam, where the water is frozen to a depth of eight inches. Early in the day the conditions were unfavourable, with rain and light showers of snow, but about 11 o’clock the weather cleared and the sun shone so warmly that outer garments were removed for the sake of comfort. About 80 curlers are assembled for the bonspiel, and are enabled to reach the site with the greatest facility, since it adjoins the main road. These photographs, which were taken yesterday morning by a Daily Times photographer, show: Top—A general view of the curling in progress; Inset —A player hurling a stone; Bottom—The stone approaching the tee, while the sweepers make a clear course for it.'
