(From Cub Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, June 29. BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting last night was attended by the Mayor (Mr D. T. Fleming) . and Crs. Hunter, Bower, Wright, M'Neil, Stevenson," Stewart, M'Cormack,,. Gormack,, and Copland. ‘ The -finance report showed that the district - fund account had; a • debit balance to date of £223 12s 10d., The report was adopted : and accounts amounting to ,£292 19a 4d passed for payment. '•/■ ; Cr Copland reported on behalf of the; Reserves Committee that 10,000 trees were on order: from the Forestry Department for- planting in; the -borough reserve at North. Balclutha; also that the: river bank had been cleared of gorge and." broom to the' boundary with Christie’s property. .J ■. The secretary of the , Sporty Ground: Committee wrote complaining of unauthorised persons using the-buildings for. sleeping in at night,- and requesting cp.uncil to close the place as a camping ground. —Several councillors said that the ground had been declared a camping area for motorists, and it would be a pity to close it. —It was’ decided that the two men now camping there be asked to go, and informed that the was" reserved for motorists passing through, and, was not intended to be used as a per-; manent" camp. ■ " : : The Rev." Baxter, Mrs Poynter, .and the Finance Committee of the council. It .was decided that in future, the coun-cil-.raeet informally half an hour before the regular hour, so’ that members might in that way get acquainted with the business'to come before the meeting; Cr Wright gave notice of motion for next meeting that the lease of the 87-acre reserve at North Balclutha he sold" at public auction. Cr M'Neil reported that unauthorised nersons had been removing stone from the quarry at Balclutha North. —The matter was referred to the Works Committee for a report. It was agreed that the borough should give local relief workers one day’s work in the July “stand-down” week. ODDFELLOWS’ BALL. Loyal Dalton Lodge held a successful ball last night, the function being attended by over 200 couples. The decora- , tions were a feature on which neither time nor money had been spared.
