(Received June 25, at 6.30 p.m.) Having successfully removed Winooka to satisfactory training quarters his owners to-day opened negotiations with the Tanforan officials regarding his possible appearance there, provided his training is completed before the meeting closes. It is estimated that his training will require about five weeks, and it is doubtful if the track will then be open. Should this prove to be the case the original plan will be followed, and the horse will go to the East Coast. The present training place is King Heather Farm, located at Walnut Creek, SO miles from San Francisco, the property of Mr John Marchhank, the noted breeder and sportsman. Winooka is eating Californian oats and grain, but is using hay brought from Australia. There was some trouble in quarantine yesterday, the health inspectors insisting that some of the imported food was contaminated with flag smut. Fifteen sacks of wheat and bran were condemned. (Received June 25, lit 6.35 p.m.) It is understood that Mr Ruff Naylor, manager of the Australian , sprinter Robertson, has sent challenges to the Negro runners, Tolan and Metcalfe, and to Wyckoff and several other sprinters who it is thought- might turn professional to run at the spring exhibition with a 1000dollar side bet from Detroit. Tolan has definitely declined. It is indicated that he intends to hold a civil service position, and has no intention of running again soon, either ns an amateur or a. professional. Robertson has-been acclimatising himself since his arrival, and will undertake no serious training for at least 10 days.
