“FASCIST CONTROL”

BAN ON STREET MEETINGS OPINION IN LABOUR CIRCLES. (Peßi United Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH, June 24. In regard to Commissioner Wohlmann’s observations on street meetings, Christchurch Labour circles oppose further restrictions. “ I can sense in the commissioner’s statement the first indication of Fascist control,” commented a trade union secretary. “ The feeling I have is that advantage is being taken of the disturbances iit° Auckland and Wellington last year to suppress legitimate demonstrations and meetings. It is recognised that these demonstrations are a safety valve, and it is a significant fact that in Christchurch, where meetings have been allowed, there has been little or no disturbance.” ANOTHER DEMONSTRATION PLANNED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 24. More secret planning by a of the unemployed resulted in a decision to hold another demonstration in the city, probably on Monday. It is understood that this week’s was not up to the expectations of the organisers, who thought 3000 men would attend, instead of the official estimate of 790.
