ORATORY CONTEST
VICTORIA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.

WELLINGTON, June 25. The twenty-seventh annual oratory contest for the Pluhket Medal conducted by the Victoria University Co le-e Debating Society in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Saturday evening, was-won bv Mr A. Katz, who took for his subject “John Reed, the American Journalist and Poet ” Mr A. H. Scotney, who spoke on “ Cecil Rhodes,” was . placed second and Mr J. H. Foster and Mr K. J. Scott tied for third place. There were eight epcakers —seven men and one woman ■who spoke on eight noted men.
