■ •• i , (From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, June 25. IJUGBY FOOTBALL. The important sepior match yesterday resulted in a decisive win for the home team, Palmerston defeating Waikouaiti by. 21 to IX. Shag Point and Palmerston are leading in the flag competition, with 10 and 14 point* respectively, Waikouaiti coming next with 10. The Dunback team was defeated at Seacliff by 13 points to nil in a ragged forward game on a slippery ground. Lome potted a good goal for the only points in the first half, and in the second tries were scored by M‘Lachlin (2) and Lloyd. Mr A. Morgan was referee. , The game on the Palmerston ground was between Waikouaiti and Palmerston. The home team was definitely superior throughout, especially in the first spell, when it should have scored more often. W. Hannah (Palmerston) was on the top of his form, while most of the other home backs showed up to advantage. M'Knight scored at the end of passing, one minute after the start, Waikouaiti retaliating with a lucky try by L. BellOther tries for the home side were scored by Morrison. Nicol, and Hannah (2). Parkhill converted three of these. _ L. Bell kicked a penalty for the visitors, making the half time score: Palmerston 21, Waikouaiti 6. Bright passing was absent in the second spell, the forwards keeping the, ball tight. Waikouaiti added 5 points (a try by R. Kirkwood and converted by I. Bell), making the final score: Palmerston 21. Waikouaiti 11. Mr J. Hollander was the referee._ Palmerston Juniors were rather fortunate in winning a fast, interesting- and even game at Waitati by 3 points to nil. C. Philip was the scorer. By defeating Waitati yesterday _ Palmerston now leads in this competition, with the former team a close second, and Waikouaiti, one point behind, third. The ‘ Palmerston Primary School defeated Dunback here yesterday by 9 points to 3in a very even game. Gunn and Whittleston (2) scored for the home team, and- E. Glover for the visitors. Mr P. Roberts was the referee. INJURIES TO PLAYERS. H. Palmer (Palmerston) suffered split lips and a skinned nose playing against Waikouaiti here yesterday. The injury was the result of a kick in the face. In the same match Nicol (Palmerston) and Ward (Waikouaiti) had also to retire with injured shoulders. Playing for Dunback against Seacliff, J. Arlington suffered a torn knee ligament, and P. M'Gregor an injured ankle PERSONAL. Mr George Ross, who has been attending the Royal Show at Wellington as the official delegate from the Otago A. and P. Association, returned to his home at Palmerston yesterday.
