MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

COWIE SHIELD CONTEST. A miniature rifle match of more, than ordinary interest will be commenced at the Drill Hall range this evening, when the first of three matches for teams of five for the Cowie Challenge Shield will be fired. This valuable prize has been presented to the Returned Soldiers' Association by Mr N. L, S. Cowie, of Arrowtown, as a mark of his appreciation of services rendered by the association, which has generously placed the trophy at the disposal of the Otago Miniature Rifle Association for open competition amongst the clubs whose members are affiliated to the association. Keen interest is being displayed in the contest, no fewer than 17 teams having already entered. These include R.S.A. (three teams), Cadbury Fry Hudson’s (two teams), Railway (one team), D.S.A. (two teams). Dunedin (two teams), Barnett’s (three teams), Speight’s (two teams), Citizens' (one team). Ladies’ National Reserve (one team). Shooting will commence at 7.30, and the control of the arrangements will be in the hands of the Returned Soldiers’ Club. ARTHUR BARNETT’S CLUB. On Thursday night a team from Arthur Barnett’s Miniature Rifle Club competed for the Winchester Cup. This cup is for competition for teams throughout New Zealand, and the conditions are 20 shots and all to count: possible, 200. The scores were as follows: —R. Graham 197, L. Wood 196, G. Wyllie 194. J. Pullen 190, C. Gamble 185; —total. 962. Arthur Barnett’s Club held its weekly shoot at the Drill Hall the same night. The scores were:—G. Wyllie 78, L. Wood 78, I. Jollock 78, J. Armstrong 77, E.
