The Metropolitan Trotting Club distributed £22,050 in stakes this season and made a profit of £590. 17s 6d, after paying Government taxation amounting to £10,525 7s 3d. >;.• ■ ‘ ' The total taxation paid to the Government by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club for the 1932-33 season-was £22,028 103 3d, which was made up as follows: —Totalisator, £9511 4a, 7d; dividends, £10,400 13s; stakes, £llO2 10s; amusement tax, £Bl3 10s 8d; income tax, £75 14s lid; land tax, £124 17s Id. Of this , amount £11,503 3s was recovered from dividends and owners, leaving a net amount of £10,525 7s 3d. _ , . A Hobart trotting owner (Mr Ralph Langdon) has received a unique trophy of the turf- When his pony, Duleiewood, ran second at a Hobart meeting and paid 8s (id for 5s on the place totalisator, Mr Langdon presented £3O worth of tickets on her at the pay-out window and received about £lO more than he was entitled to collect. Mr Langdon noticed the,error and returned the ‘tenner to the clerk. The next day he was presented by the tote staff With a gold cigarette case. . • c . . Preliminary arrangements to hold a special trotting meeting on October 14 at Addington have been completed-by. the New, Zealand- Metropolitan, the Canterbury Park, and the New Brighton Trotting Clubs. The meeting Will be held .to assist in raising' funds for the Relief Committee in its endeavour to raise £25,000, if. a permit to conduct it can be obtained. The Canterbury Park Trotting Club has applied to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Adam Hamilton) to grant a totalisator permit for the meeting, and .has also asked that the clubs should be relieved of the Usual taxation, Sub-committees were also elected, to. go into the* various questions concerning the running of the proposed meeting. . A striking feature of trotting, meetings in the Auckland province this season (says “ Abydos ”) has been the number of horses that have succeeded in- winning the two miles and mile and a-quarter races bn, the, same day. At the. Waikato Club's spring meeting Direct Morning won the double, and Brentlight a. similar feat at the club’s summer meeting. _ On the secoond day of the Auckland Febru•tffyf fixture First Flight won the, two principal races,. while her stable. mate (Eriawah’i was responsible for a similar effort at Cambridge last ■ month. - At Thames in March Pageant won the cup and the sprint race, and on. the second day went-very, close to repeating the performance, winning the Goldfields Handicap and being narrowly defeated. byBrent Zolock in the.
