THE ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION

TO'THE EDITOR.

Sir,— The St. John Ambulance Association again desires to lay its needs before' the public, with the assurance (based on past experience) that it will respond to this appeal for financial assistance.. . ; , The work is not-only being maintained but the increased demands of the present time are being met. The ladies' Guild is now making layettes for all the_ unemployed depots, as well as supplying the needs of patients attended by our own three district nurses. _ This association stands alone in Dunedin in providing grained nurses for the sick poor and needy gratis, supplying at the same cost such medical comforts, as are necessary) including food, clothing, and firing. > Under the present conditions the work of the ambulances, nurses, hospital hostess and the guild has necessarily been increased, while at the same time the income bas seriously diminished, for the ordinary source has been materially interfered with by the calls upon the public 'for assistance in so many other directions. The work of St. John is , a necessity that we are compelled to maintain efficiently.—On behalf of the committee, I am etc.,' A. Peters, hon. secretary. Dunedin, June 22.
