ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
'' TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Along with a good many other •pectatora at the match between Canterbury and Otago, I was much disappointed at the poor exhibition given by some ot the players in the Otago team. Had it not been for the solid play of the centre, forward, the inside left, and the right half-back, Otago would have had a very poor change of retaining the Trophy. It wag only the hard work of. these three players that pulled the team through. It the association were to give a show to the goalkeeper, and the two full-backs and the half-back line of the winning team 'that played on the same ground on a previous Saturday, it would have a team that would take some beating. As we want to keep the Trophy here for three years at least, X trust the association will give this a thought. 1 should like also to ask the Referees’ Club to submit Mr W. P. Smith’s name for the next match.— 1 am, etc., 1 Ex-Referee.
