RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION
IT) the editor Sir,— Allow me very heartily to endorse the letter of “ Patriotic Mother’’ in f today’s issue with reference to Russia. The Bishop of Waikato does not represent the main body of .the church to which he belongs, as he is an extreme modernist who will only be speaking for himself. Most especially do I concur in the concluding paragraph of the letter of “ Patriotic Mother ” with reference to religious instruction. Our high schools are opened
in the manner suggested by her, and anyone conversant with our Waitaki Boys’ High School will know the effect with which this, coupled with the high ideals of Mr Milner, the rector, has on the boys. They are imbued with the grand principles of loyalty to God, King, and country. The pupils of our Waitaki Girls’ High School are imbued with the same ideals, and I have no doubt all our high schools are helped in a great measure by the acknowledgment of God, the keeping of His commandments being thus included in their curriculum. Could we not follow in our primary schools the example set in our high schools? It would in a great measure solve the vexed question of Bible in Schools and, as “ Patriotic Mother ” points out, in view ot the Bolshevist menace, it is absolutely necessary.—l am, etc., G. Stringer. Oamaru. June 22.
