ALMOST A FIGHT
SCENE IN HOUSE OF COMMONS LABOUR MEMBERS AT VARIANCE (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON. June 22. (Received June 23, at 5.5 p.m.) A debate in the House of Commons on the salary of the Secretary of State for Scotland (Sir Godfrey Collins), in which the Scottish hunger marchers in Edinburgii were mentioned, culminated in an unexpected scene while a vote was being taken. Mr G. Buchanan (Labour) hurled a taunt at the front Opposition bench, which Mr Neil Maclean (Labour) resented. The words “ cur ” and “ liar ” were interchanged. Mr Maclean rose and rushed to strike Mr Buchanan, who rose to meet him. Mr J. Maxton (Labour) however, intervened and pulled Mr Maclean back to his seat, while a Conservative held Mr Buchanan, thus preventing a fight on the floor of the House. The two Labour members continued to exchange angry taunts until the reentry of the Speaker ended the scene.
