“IL TROVATORE”

The Grand Opera Club of Dunedin will stage Verdi’s popular opera “H Trovatore ” on July 5 to 8, inclusive, at His Majesty’s Theatre. “II Trovatore ” is a sure draw whenever it is produced, and the outstanding cast of soloists, backed by a fine chorus of 60 first-class singers, will ensure the music being eloquently performed. Special scenery has been procured, the staging being on a lavish scale. The bright colours of the gipsy costumes and the uniforms of the soldiers make a very spectacular picture, and the gipsy ballet by students of the Rena Clavering School of Dancing will be a feature. The soloists are Miss Gaynor Paape, Miss Dorothy Mackay, Mi-ss Mary Belcher, Mies Phyllis Clare, Miss Jess M'Millan, Mr Hubert Carter (of Christchurch), Mr Arthur Macdonald, Mr E. Paris, Mr Alex M'Dowell and Mr Ernest Griffin. Mr Alfred Walmsley will conduct and produce, while the stage management is in the hands of Mr J. Gordon and Mr A. M'Cartney.
