The church bells of Bethany, Augusta, Georgia, have lately been rung for the first time in 45 years. They wore silenced because the horses at the neighbouring fire station, unable to discrim*' nate between church and alarm bells dashed from their stalls to the engines when they were rung. Motor fire engines have replaced the horse-drawn machines, and so the church bells are being'rung once more.
