YOUNG WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Young Women’s Christian Association was held on Wednesday. Mrs M. C. Begg presided and there present Mesdames F. B. Adams, A. G. 13Fisher, P. L. Ritchie, J. C. Begg, W. JPorteous, 11. D. Skinner, C. B. Barrowdough, H. M’Callum, P Kerens, Jones, J. S. Ross, H, K. Wilkinson, Misses Ross and Black. Opening devotions were conducted by Mrs Begg. Plans are made for the Y.W.C.A. s fifty-sixth birthday party which will be held in August. A report of the unemployment work was given, stating that various classes had been formed such as dressmaking, shorthand practice, Karitane lectures, booklore, singing and sports, to help unemployed girls spend their leisure time profitably. The Health and Recreation Department reported the progress of the Interhouse Sports Club, (he Badminton Club, and the Folk Dancing Class. The first games evening of the year was held on Monday, June 12, when there were 140 girls present. The Girl Citizens, it was reported, had entered upon a drive for new members, and were working in teams for this end. They had recently had a visit from Miss Audrey M'Crea, the national secretary for New Zealand of the Girl Citizen movement. She gave interesting talks to the various groups about her travels abroad in connection with Y.W.C.A. work. The senior clubs were busy working up a programme of an international character in connection with the forthcoming visit in July of Miss Van Asch Van Wijck and Miss Niven. ■ The Business Girls’ Club reported interesting meetings. The speaker on June 12 was Mr’ W. Downie Stewart, M.P., who gave a very interesting address on “ World Problems,” dealing specifically with matters of finance. Preliminary plans were outlined for the coming visit of Miss Van Asch Van Wijck and Miss Niven, the World’s Y.W.C.A. president and general secretary respectively, from Geneva.
