UPPER HOUSE REFORM
ROYAL ASSENT TO BILL THE FUTURE PROCEDURE. SYDNEY, June 22. (Received June 22, at 10.45 p.m.) In the New South Wales Legislative Assembly to-day, the Speaker (S>r Daniel Levy) announced that Royal assent had been given to the Constitution Amendment Bill for the reform of the Legislative Council, on which the recent referendum was held, resulting in a majority of 40,000 votes in favour of the measure. The Government will now proceed with its plans for the reconstituting of the Chamber, but a few months must elapse before the new Council is elected by the present Houses sitting as an elective body.
