STAMP VENDING MACHINE AT ST. KILDA
TO THE EDITOR Sir— As the matter of installing a stamp-vending machine at the St. Kilda Post Office was taken up at the last meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council with the Postmaster-general, I must state, in fairness to Mr F. Jones, M.P., and to myself, that this business was brought forward by myself in the first place. I wrote to Mr Jones in the middle of May, long before the St. Kilda Council supposedly became interested. _ Mr Jones at once interviewed the St. Kilda town clerk, who told him that several years previously the council had approached the Government and been informed that a machine would be installed, provided the council found accommodation, which the council refused to do. Mr Jones then wrote to the Postmaster-general. > I also interviewed the chief postmaster in Dunedin. The latter official was very sympathetic, and eventually Mr Jones told me by telephone that the department had decided to install a machine as soon as a supply arrived. I certainly take credit for starting tlie ball rolling in this matter, while to Mr Jones is due the chief credit for satisfying this long-felt want. I contend that my claim was jumped by the St. Kilda Council, as one who reads can plainly see. —I am, etc.,' Arthur Pidduok. St. Kilda, June 22.
