FUNERAL OF MR D. M'KENZIE

The funeral of Mr D. M'Kenzie, who died at Port Chalmers on Tuesday, took place on Wednesday,afternoon, the: body being interred in the Anderson’s Hay Cemetery. In his early days .Mr M'Kenzie was third, mate of the sailing ship Waipa. ; - . ; : - ; . • WORK AT THE MOLE Work on the construction of the mole at the Spit will be recommenced on Monday, when a fairly large number of men will be employed at the Harbour Board’s quarry cutting, out the rock. The .work was suspended about, eight months ago. The works at. the mole and the quarry were inspected yesterday afternoon by two members of the Harbour Board. RPJEF WORKERS Arrangements are now in train for holding an entertainment on the night of July 0 in aid of the Port Chalmers relief workers. The entertainment, which will be under the direction of Mr G. F, Mirams, will bq held, in. the Laurier Theatre. PORT CHAFERS BAND A meeting, of the, three committees appointed to .organise and control the queen carnival now in progress in connection with the Port Chalmers Band’s effort to raise funds to procure a 5 new set of instruments,.was held on Wednesday night. 'Various' matters' were discussed and approved.,. Miss P. Hutton was selected. as. the. band queen, Miss S. Watson as the unemployed queen, and Miss E. Porter as (he. sports queen; Mayor (Mr J. Watson) has given permission for flags to be hoisted On the band rotunda, a flag to represent-each ; queen. The will indicate the position each queen holds in the" favour of those interested.
