Among the more startling of the pro jects for the embellishment of the Paris Exhibition of 1937, now under consideration, is one for the construction of n tower over 2000 feet high. The architects and the contractor responsible for the plan have in mind a polygonal tower built of reinforced concrete, with spiral motor tracks leading to a platform 1500 feet above the ground, and a smaller track for the use of light cars leading to another platform 300 feet higher. Near the summit of the tower, another platform will provide opportunities for sun-bathing and fresh air, and restaurants will provide accommoclati6n for some 2000 persons. At the top a lighthouse visible for many miles will be installed The cost of such a tower, comparatively small in view of its height, is estimated to be about £40,000. At present the tallest building in the world is the Empire State Building in New York, 1248 feet. The height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris is 984 feet. The ancestor of the modern mechanical road vehicle was a steam-driven carriage which created a sensation 130 years ago by running through London streets. It was invented by Richard Trevithick.
