LOCAL THEATRE’S COMPETITION
Great interest is being taken in the “ Search for Beauty ” which the Paramount Picture Corporation is conducting in New Zealand at the present time through the agency of picture theatres iu the various centres. In Dunedin the competition is being undertaken and supervised by the management of the Regent Theatre, from whom the fullest particulars arc available. The competition takes the form of a search for what may be regarded as the ideal types of young New Zealanders, Masculine and feminine in its scope, the competition aims at the selection of a couple between the ages of 17 years and SO who may j be expected to represent fittingly in the I screen centres of America the Dominion lof New Zealand. The winning entrants will be finally selected after candidates I from the various centres have been assembled and judged, the semi-final stage of the • competition comprising a comi parison between the best which each island can produce. The finalists will be scut to Hollywood, where they will be given a five weeks’ contract at 50 dollars a week (£lO at par), and during their ; stay in the film colony their living exi penses will be paid and in addition they will have the opportunity of competing : for a 1000-dollar bonus (£2OO at par) which is offered to the players register- ; ing the best performance. The winning ! couple will receive a 1000-dollar bonus 1 each, and may also expect to be retained for further film work if that is their wish.
