Staff-captain E. Davies, who is iu charge of the women’s social work branch of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, and who has been on a visit to Dunedin inspecting the various institutions conducted by the Salvation Army in this city, will leave this morning for Christchurch. v Mr C. Staniforth, of the firm of Messra Cadbury Fry Hudson, who has been residing in Dunedin for the past three years, left on his return to Bournvill# by the through express yesterday. Hearty congratulations ojn his appointment to the Chancellorship of the University of Otago were accorded the rector of the Otago Boys’ High School (Mr W. J. Morrell) by the High Schools 1 Board of Governors at its meeting yesterday afternoon. , • A Press Association telegram from Gisborne announces the death at Manutuke of Mrs Makaretu Rihara Porcu, -aged 92, a sister and the last of the. direct family connections with the rebel Maori leader Te Kooti. : . - Mr W. G. Blackie, senior school inspector at Wanganui, has been appointed senior inspector at Auckland, succeeding Dr M'llwraith, who was recently appointed chief inspector. Mr A. F. M'Murtrie, oF Auckland, has been appointed t» Wanganui.
