BLAKE v. VARGA Having been disappointed at the unavoidable last-minute defection of “Whiskers” Blake three weeks ago, the Dunedin public will have the opportunity of greeting him at the Town Hall on Monday next, when he will step into the ring to try conclusions with Count Joseph Varga, “the mystery man.” Blake has a style all his own. Very tall, and sporting one of those red, square boards that were so familiar in the family photograph albums of a generation ago, Blake’s entry into wrestling in New Zealand caused an amused buzz, which changed into gasps as he used most unorthodox and novel methods of getting out of trouble. His long legs give him an advantage, especially when he essays his remarkable “shock scissorsWhiskers’s” pet submission hold, and one that troubled the champion, George Walker. Count Joseph W. Varga first stepped into the wrestling ring in Vienna wearing a frock coat, a top hat, spats, and a.monocle. Ho was enticed there by the jeers of a showman who suffered for his temerity. Varga’s dress iu the ring is to-day as orthodox as his methods are surprising. Somewhat of a mystery man when he first arrived, he has since lived np to the reputation that preceded him. In a professional wrestling contest tonight A 1 Pereira drew with Harry Mamos. Memos secured a fall in the fifth round, and Pereira a fall in' the last round. It was an excellent bout, contested in a good spirit.
