POWERS OF THE SENATE i j i iMR DE VALERA’S DECLARATION (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) DUBLIN, June 21. (Received June 21, at 7 p.ra.) j The Bail read a second time the Constitutional Amendment Bill, reducing the period of the Senate’s powers to delay the legislation from 18 to three months. Mr de Valera declared that the Senate, which merely duplicated the Bail, wasted public money amounting to £40,000 yearly and should represent, vocational groups numbering about 30 experts. He added that if the present Bill was rejected more drastic legislation might lie rushed through. This may imply the abolition of the Senate. Mr B. B. Fitzgerald taunted Mr de Valera with desiring a dictatorship.
