CHAIRMAN AND MEMBER

“BREEZE” AT BOARD MEETING

REPORT ON PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

(Peb United Press Association.t WELLINGTON, June 21.

There was a “ breeze ” at the Wellington'Education Board meeting to-day arising out of a return regarding private schools and the grading of private school teachers, which Mr T. W. M'Donald had asked for at a previous meeting. When it was presented to-day the chairman, Mr Forsyth, moved that consideration be taken in committee.

This at once brought Mr M’Donald to his feet, and he vehemently protested. There was nothing confidential in the report, he said, and he accused the chairman of attempting to stifle something which ought to see the light of day. Mr Forsyth said he objected to a private member of the board ventilating his private grievance. The report concerned private schools, whereas the Board was concerned with primary schools. He did not think the board should be dragged into what did not really concern it. He was in the dark as to what was behind it all.

Mr Forsyth refused to accept an amendment by Mr M'Donald that the report lie on the table, holding that this was tantamount to a direct negative. The motion that the report be considered in committee was carried by 9 votes to 4.
