OTAGO CENTRE MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association Mr E. L. Macassey presided over a large attendance of delegates. Before opening the meeting Mr E. L. Macassey referred to the death of Sir Thomas Sidey, who had been president of the Cavereham Harrier Club and in later years patron of the centre. Members stood for a few momenta as a mark of respect, and a letter of condolence was forwarded to Lady Sidey and Mr Stuart Sidey. • The Rev. E. S. Tuckwcll wrote inviting harriers to attend a church parade at the Hanover Street Baptist Church on Sunday, July 30.—Received. Applications for reinstatement to amateur status were received from I. B. Cameron (Oamaru) pnd H. T. Jones (Mokoreta), and were fortvarded to the New Zealand Council with favourable recommendations. The secretary (Mr T. M. Brydone) presented a report on a conference of cyclists and representatives of cycling clubs, and recommended that steps should be taken to form a separate cycling centre in Otago.—lt was decided to carry out the recommendation, and Messrs R. Thompson and H. T. Emmerson were appointed as the centre’s delegates on the pew cycling centre. It was resolved to call a meeting of cycling delegates on July 10. Messrs Macassey and Masters were appointed delegates to wait on the committee of the Eorbury Park Trotting Club. It was decided to accept a tour of- Australian athletes for next season, on the terms submitted by the New Zealand Council. It was also decided to write the New Zealand Council asking if it was possible to include a cyclist in the team. The Harrier Sub-committee submitted a report, which stated that all arrangements in connection with the Port Road Race had l)een completed. It was decided to hold the Otago Crosscountry Race on August 12, and the Marathon Road Race on September 9. The Junior Cross-country Championship will be held over the same course as last year. The system of scratch racing was thoroughly discussed, and it was decided to hold a meeting of the committee at an early date. Mr MTndoe reported on the visit of the Northern and Cargill Road Clubs to Invercargill on June 3. It was hoped that this would Joe the forerunner of further visits between Dunedin and Invercargill Clubs. Accounts for £7 12s lid were passed for payment. It was decided to hold a dance on July 22, when the presentation of prizes and cups won during the summer season would be awarded.
