(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 20. In the New Zealand Chess Club championships, the match between Wellington and Auckland was concluded on Saturday evening. Wellington won five games and drew eight, making the tally: Wellington, nine wins; Auckland, four. Seven games have been reserved for adjudication. The present position indicates a win for Wellington by a small margin. GREYMOUTH, June 20. Found inside.the premises of the Bank of New South Wales at 9.50 last night, in a drunken condition, a man whose name was suppressed was convicted and discharged when he appeared before the court to-day. George Ross Champion, aged 31, pleaded guilty this morning to three charges of issuing valueless cheques, and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be served concurrently. The accused had a record. CHRISTCHURCH, June 20. Reginald William Norman, a bankrupt salesman, charged witli failing to keep proper books and that with intent to conceal the true state of his affairs he wilfully omitted to keep proper books, was remanded to June 27. Bail was allowed —self in £IOO, and one surety of £IOO.
