(From Our' Own Correspondent.) 1 ■ WiTKOUATTI, ! June 19. BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. At a meeting of the Waikouaiti Beautifying Society, held on Thursday evening,’ s full programme’ of work for the, immediate future was discussed ami adopted., This consists of ,the planting - , of a double row of rowan trees, .protected by a fence,, at Mr W. ITallurn’s street, the planting of a. row of poplars at Beach .Park, and the continuation of the small plantation st the bottom of Beach street, the latter to be surrounded by rabbit netting. ■ MR E. DAVIS HONOURED. On Friday evening a large number of bowlers and members of the Athenaeum met in the club room for the purpose of honouring Mr E. Davis, one of the oldest members of both clubs, who is about to visit the Old Country. Mr B. W. Fell, who is president of both bodies, reminded those present of the long and faithful service which the guest of the evening had rendered to the clubs represented, as secretary: to. the Bowling Club for many years and as trustee' to the Athenaeum for an even longer period.' Mr Stewart, Mr Mudge, Mr Goodly, the Rev. T. W. Potts,'’ and Mr Don Malloeh supported the president’s words of goodwill to Mr Davie. Mr Fell presented Mr ; Davis with an inscribed gold medallion in memory of the occasion, and with it the very best good wishes for the future. Replying, Mr Davis expressed deep appreciation of the gift, which, he said, he would greatly treasure. He then related incidents in Waikouaiti’s life of 50 years ago. During the evening Mr George Hunt sang a solo appropriate to the occasion.
