A year ago Halwell House, in Plymouth, was a ruin. It had no roof; it had no tenant; it had no use in the world. The unemployed men of Plymouth were offered this ruin. They took it gladly and they did not take one penny with it. By the unemployeds' own hard work they have put the house into perfect condition and now it is a centre for rest, recreation and instruction. The Mayor of Plymouth opened the new Halwell House, which is such a splendid example of the spirit of self-help.
