HUGE BUILDING PROGRAMME THIRTY-TWO SHIPS IN THREE YEARS (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, June 15. The Secretary of the Navy (Mr OA. Swanson) formally announced a 238.000. dollars naval building programme, under which it is intended to put 32 new ships on the water in three years. WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED DETAILS OF PROPOSALS. WASHINGTON, June 15. “ President Roosevelt has agreed to allocate the funds out of the 3.300.000. dollars public .works appropriation, and is anxious to have the work done as soon as possible,” Mr Swanson said, adding: “We will build to the fullest capacity of our shipyard facilities as quickly as possible. We want to put people to work at shipbuilding, where 85 per cent, of the expenditure goes to labour. The programme calls for 20 destroyers, of which 16 will be in the 1500-ton class, four in the 850-ton class, two aircraft carriers not exceeding 20,000 tons, four 10,000-ton six-inch cruisers, four submarines, and two gunboats for Chinese waters.”
