Up till some time ago matters in connection with the operation of the telephones on the ranks were proceeding satisfactorily, but it has recently been found necessary to specifically define the position with regard to the teleE hones, and the regulations, which will ave the force and effect of a city bylaw, are designed to that end. The committee will report as follows: A proposal conveyed by the , Roslyn Ratepayers’ Association for a resident in the vicinity of the Roslyn baths to undertake the duties of custodian of the promises during the swimming season, approximately 12 weeks, and also to generally oversee the premises during the “off” season, has been agreed to. ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER The Electric Light and Power Committee will report as follows: —The matter of the charges and conditions for church heating, which has arisen as the result of an application for heating Knox Church with electricity, has been re-

viewed. At present the rate charged for such supply is Id per unit, on condition that the heaters are not used before 6.30 p.m. during the week, although they can be used at any time on Sundays. In Knox Church it is proposed to switch on the heating early on Sunday morning so as to bring the supply within the standard rate of id per unit for supply between 10 p.m. and 7.30 a.m. As it is expected that on certain occasions heating will also be necessary during the day time on Sundays, a request is made that the id rate be extended to include such heating. It has been decided that this request, be acceded to. and the decision will, of course, be applicable to the other churches who may desire to install or take fuller advantage of the electric heating supply. The arrangement in each case would be subject to a guarantee that the heaters are used on Sundays only, any heating required during the week to be subject to the Id rate. If found possible, the service will be metered so that the consumption on Sunday will be registered on a separate meter from that used during the week, in which case the two would be charged on different rates. TRAMWAYS COMMITTEE The Tramways Committee will report as follows: — Authority has been granted to amend the Glenleith bug service so as to provide for the bus, which usually leaves Duke street at 12.5, to leave at tioon and run to Glenleith. There are no regular travellers by this bus and it is anticipated that the alteration will meet the requirements of a number of children from the George Street School. Authority has been granted to remove the existing tramway shelter at Roslyn, Highgate, to the intersection of Opoho road and Signal Hill road to meet the convenience of passengers at that point. A larger shelter will be erected at Highgate at a cost of approximately £lB 103. The tramway manager’s statement of the traffic returns for the past fortnightly period, as compared with those for the corresponding period of last year, indicate a decrease in revenue for the period of £628. The total decrease since April 1 last is £1553 —4.88 per cent. FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Finance Committee will report as follows:

Authority has been granted to relieve the Public Art Gallery Society of the payment of premiums on the society’s policies covering the pictures and contents of the gallery.
