A fire broke out a few weeks ago in a six-storey building in the Rue de Richelieu in Paris. On the arrival of the fire brigade it was noticed that smoke was pouring out of one of the top windows, where it was discerned there was a caged canary. Quickly a long ladder was placed in position, and a fireman ascended till he reached a cornice near the imprisoned canary, and at great risk to his own life made his way along to the rescue.
