CAVERSHAM SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of the Caversham School Committee was held ou Monday evening, the chairman (Mr T. A. Brown) presiding over a full attendance of members. Reference was made to the passing of Sir Thomas Sidey, an ex-committee member, and Mr J. R. Rutherford, an exteacher of the school. Supplies of fuel for the winter months were arranged. Accounts amounting to £43 were passed for payment. The headmaster reported a roll number of 708 (last year 726). and an average attendance of 684. Association football goalposts, given by the Otago Football Association, had been erected on the grounds for practice purposes, and the various sports teams had been outfitted with jerseys, hockey sticks, and balls. As a result of a discussion on finance it was decided to hold a jumble sale early in July and to convene a meeting of interested organisations with a view to conducting a carnival later in the year. The open-air school reported a roll number of 16, the teacher also making special reference to the efforts being made’ to provide the pupils at this special school with hot meals. Funds were being raised by an energetic committee of those interested, and the cooking of meals was being attended to by assistants from the Home Science Department, with the assistance of the Ex-Pupils’ Association and the School Social Club.
