DAWSON-CABALLERO CONCERTS

THREE NIGHTS’ SEASON. The advance manager for the Peter Dawson-Tapia Caballero concerts to be given in the big Town Hall next week is being inundated with request numbers for Mr Dawson, and as usual the old songs such as “ The Company Sergeant Major,’’ “ Boots,” “ Road to Mandalay,” “ Mountains of Mourne,” “ Shipmates o’ Mine,” “ The Floral Dance,” “ Glorious Devon,” etc., are in the majority, and most of these will be included in the fipst night’s programme. Great artists may come and go, but the name of Peter Dawson ..ill unquestionably go down in the annals of musical chronicles ns one of the most popular of the world’s singers, who rarely fails to fill even the biggest of the famous concert halls. His recent concert at Wellington Town Hall, according to the local critic, was “ one of those artistic and inspiring treats for which one often longs and so seldom gets. The baritone was in perfect voice, in spite of his only having arrived from Sydney yesterday, and tlic eight numbers of his programme plus innumerable encores were all rendered with that exquisite ability and artistic interpretation which have placed Mr Dawson in the front rank of popular singers. The ease, grace, and pleasure with which the artist performs are insidious, and the listener unconsciously relaxes and willingly allows the singer to take him into emotional flights, for whether he renders an aria, a ballad, or a folk song, the baritone makes of it something beautiful and elegant. Mr Dawson’s associate, Senor Tapia Caballero, a Spanish pianist, created quite a furore with his bewitching pianissimos, thrilling crescendos, and fortissimos. Poiseful in his approach, he bent over the keys ns if he wore almost putting into the beautiful-toned instrument his whole body and soul. There was no swaying or raging, but an intent gazing into the combination of hands'and keys as with deft, faultless fingering he held his audience with rapt attention. Needless to say, the combined artistic effort of both artists met with a great reception, the huge audience vociferously echoing its delight long after concert closing time.” Three concerts will bo given in (he major Town Hall, on the nights of Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week. The box plan and other particulars of interest are advertised.
