QUEENSTOWN NOTES
(Fbom Oub Own Correspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, June 13, FOOTBALL. ' At Arrowtown on Saturday the final of the Miller Schools Cup,competition was played as a curtain-raiser. The finalists were Queenstown Public School, and Arrow Convent, the latter winning by 6 points to nil. Arrowtown and Queenstown juhiors then took the field, the honours going again to the home team. A cup fixture engaged Queenstown and Arrowtown seniors, the latter winning by 34 to 3. Arrow nowTeads’in the'cup fixtures. ' , ■ ./ ; - ( : BASKET BALL. ; On Saturday a Tait Cup match between Queenstown and Arrowtown schools was played at Arrowtown. The visitors won by 19 to 6. The same afternoon the first match of the schools’ competition took place at Queenstown, Convent beating Queenstown B by 27 to 1. ' , .RIFLE SHOOTING. ' A cup shoot held by the Queenstown section of the Wakatipu Defence Rifle. Club on Saturday resulted in Rifleman Walton R. Brown winning the Simeon Button. . k SCHOOL CHANGES. , Miss Evelyn Leslie, who has-held the position of second assistant at'the Queenstown Public School.for the past two years and a-half, tendered her resignation to the School Committee at its meeting to-night. Miss Leslie has received an- appointment in the Okuku School, Canterbury, where she will go at the end of the month. The post of headmaster at the local public school has not yet been filled.. It is likely, however, that an appointment will be made during the next few days. GENERAL. Mr Hugh Mackenzie, one of the members of the firm of H. Mackenzie and Sons, Walter Peak Station, Lake Wakatipu, has just concluded the purchase of a farm near Dipton. Mr Mackenzie and his family intend to settle bn the property towards the end of fthe month. It has been decided to form a fire brigade in Arrowtown. At a meeting #eld during the week 10 young men volunteered their services to this end, and Mr W. Murphy offered his services as instructor. Those appointed to the committee were Messrs J. H. Douglas (secretary). E. L. Thompson, ,W. Adams, R. L. Fletcher, and P. M. Tobin. ' ! ■ PERSONAL. Mr F. W. Bailey, postmaster at Queenstown, is spending his annual leave in Dunedin. The position of relieving postmaster is being filled by Mr R. J. Conville, chief clerk in the local office.
Mr W. MTnnes, seu., left Queenstown some days : ago for Wellington, where he will embark on Saturday for the Homeland. 1
