WORK OF THE COURTS
SERVICES OF JUSTICES GREATER USE FOR COUNTRY SITTINGS. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 13. Referring to-day to the criticism levelled by legal practitioners at the proposal to give more work to justices of the peace, the Minister of Justice (Mr r, J, 6. Cobbe) said his Christchurch re- ■ marks had been given much wider significance than he intended. .No change in the legislation extending the powers of justices was contemplated. He did not intend to convey the impression that the English practice would be adopted in toto, but rather referred to it as a precedent for the fuller use of justices. Owing to the financial position it had been necessary to reduce magisterial sittings in country courts, and that might entail a reallocation of work and the more frequent attendance' of justices. « The services of justices should be utilised u much as possible.
