RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION

EXECUTIVE MEETING A meeting of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association Executive was held last night. The president (Mr A. J. Gordon) wan in the chair. The secretary reported that the mem- , bership of the association was 1063. He also reported that the Christchurch Association now Lad a membership of 938. . Sixteen new members were nominated and approved, and two ■ inward and one outward transfers granted. Mr G. M'Crae was appointed to the position of night steward to the association’s club. , ' The Social Committee reported that it had been decided to hold free and easy evenings on ; June 24, July 22, August 5, August 26, and September 23. It was also decided to ask Mr Robertson, to give an illustrated lecture on; the SinaiPalestine campaign _ early in July, and that Mr C. E. Scott be asked to give a lecture on the German West African campaign early in September.—The report was approved. Reporting oh behalf, of the Unemployment Committee, Mr A. M’Hutchon stated that allocations of money had been made to West Harbour Borough, Green Island, Kaitaneata, Mosgiel, ; North-East Harbour, Port Chalmers, Sawyers’ Bay, and West Taieri. One 10-ton truck of coal had been received from the Kaitangata Sub-association, and distributed to necessitous cases. One truck of fat sheep was being forwarded by the Roxburgh Committee, and the sheep would be sold by the Auctioneers’ Association free of com-, mission at the Burnside stock sales. The money received from the sale would beused to alleviate distress amongst returned soldiers’ families. Several individual grants had been made. In regard to single men on relief work, each case would be* dealt with on its merits for the standdown week, and one day’s work would be given to applicants.—The report was approved. A letter was received from the Oamaru Association stating that it had nominated Mr N. H. Colquhoun for the position of district vice-president. The question of territorial boundaries was discussed, -and it was decided that Mr W. Twesclie, of Timaru, be asked to act as arbitrator in connection witlji the matter, ' Mr P. S. Anderson reported that the sub-committee appointed had interviewed Sister Kirkpatrick in regard to nursing assistance to. the families of returned soldiers. The sub-committee expressed appreciation of the work being done by Sister Kirkpatrick, and reported that satisfactory arrangements_ had been made for the work to be continued. A committee consisting of Messrs A, J. Gordon, A. Laing. W. F. Forrester, H, L. Paterson, and P. S. Anderson was appointed to confer with representatives of the various’: military units with the object of assisting the queen carnival to be held in connection with the Mayor’s scheme for the relief of distress. _ .
