“THREE WISE FOOLS”

To-morrow evening and on Friday and Saturday the Dunedin Strolling Players will present the charming comedy-drama “Three Wise Fools” in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. The play is a delightful one, and includes scenes of laughter and tense dramatic episodes, while through it all is a winsome love, story. The plot deals with three old friends —a banker, a judge, and a doctor (“ three wise fools”) —who have lived together for many years, and who were all in ]ove with the same girl in their youth. They suddenly receive word that she has died in abject poverty, leaving her child, Sidney, to their care. Expecting a baby boy, they are very much astonished and dismayed when a girl of about 20 presents herself. The banker’s nephew, Gordon, immediately falls in love with her, but affairs are complicated by the appearance of an escaped criminal,_ Benny Surat, who has sworn to kill the judge. From then on the movement of the play is fast, and humorous and dramatic incidents follow in quick succession. Richard White is the producer, and the cast, which is a strong one, includes Anita Winkel, Elsie MTeak, Russell Napier, Douglas Dali, George Salmoud, Angms Govrie, Douglas Skene, E. W. Griffiths, Charles Smith, Bert Jones, Gordon Niven, and Roland Watson. Begg’s Orchestra will supply musical numbers for the overture and the entr’actes. The box plan is at the Bristol, and the wdiole of the proceeds are in aid of the Y.M.C.A.’s work amongst the boys of the city.
