MILK FOR CHILDREN
AID TO NUTRITION SCHEME TO SUPPLY SCHOOLS. (Per United Fees* Association.) WELLINGTON, June 13. The .Wellington “ Smith Family ” has undertaken to supply from,next Monday half a pint of milk each school day to under-nourished children ill the city primary schools, private and public. The scheme has been arranged in co-opera-tion with the school hygiene division of the Health Department. Dr Ada Paterson is giving her assistance and advice, and the Milk Committee of the City Council and the general manager of the department (Mr R. E. Herron) are supporting the scheme enthusiastically. Mr Herron has been authorised to arrange for the supply and delivery of milk to the schools, and the producers are also assisting materially and have agreed to supply milk for this purpose under a plan which will enable it to be placed in the schools at 9d per gallon. Even eo, the cost will be considerable. The present estimate is £lB 2s lid per week, for no fewer than 1547 children are to receive their half pints of milk next week.
