“ Huia ” is an Otago butter, and is the finest flavoured in New Zealand. —Advt. It was stated of a man summoned at Willesden the other day for failing to maintain his wife that he refused to claim the dole, although he was out of work and entitled to it. The man told the magistrate that he had a conscientious objection to the dole, and nothing would make him draw it The defendant in reply to the magistrate said: “ I believe the dole lowers the standard of life. There is no law to make me claim it, and rather than do so I would go to prison.” The magistrate told him that for the sake of his wife and children he had better think the matter over again. The case was adjourned for a week.
