A sum of at. least £7,000,000 in sovereigns and half-sovereigns has passed 'out of the possession of private individuals in Great Britain in the goldselling rush which began more than a year ago. An approximately amount of standard gold was obtained during the peak period from jewellery and scrap. Sovereigns in the- earlier months of last year were worth as much as 2Ss each, and even false teeth were at a premium.
