PALMERSTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, June 11. RUGBY FOOTBALL. The Eastern Districts senior teams concluded their first round yesterday in good’ football weather, although the grounds were showing the effects of the recent rain. Shag Point is in the lead with 12 flag points, Palmerston second with 10, and Waikouaiti third with 8. The match between Dunback and Macraes, at Dunback, resolved itself into a struggle between the forwards, especially in the second spell, when the game was very even. M'Crosty (scored twice for’Macraes in the first, half, giving that team a lead which it held throughout. The game ended; Macraes 6, Dunback nil. Mr T. J. Kirk-Burnnand was the referee. The game on the Palmerston ground was between Palmerston and Karitane. The first half was an uninteresting forward struggle enlivened, by a few passing movements, which invariably broke down. The scoring was opened in the second half with a try by Hannah. Later H. Morrison scored after a good passing movement. Neither try was converted, and the game ended: Palmerston 6, Karitane nil. Two Kgritane men, White and Dunne, had to retire, one with an injured knee, and the other with a broken nose. Mr C. Stallard was the referee. In the Junior Grade Waitati defeated Merton at Waitati by 9 points to nil. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Palmerston-Waihemo A. and P, Association was held on Friday night. Mr F. G. Collins (president) occupied the chair. It was decided to hold a working bee in the Show Grounds on'Wednesday next. A member gave.£4 4s to be spent on labour in connection with top-dressing the ground. The topdressing of the whole ring is to be carried out in the near future. Mr C. Scott, who has left the district, tendered his resignation from the position of auditor, and Mr W. B. Galloway was appointed. Mr W. R. Wedge was appointed treasurer.
