MEN’S COMPETITION UNIVERSITY A v. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS The game between University A and Technical College Old Boys was played at Oval No. 3, which was in a poor state. The overhead Conditions were perfect. • During the earlier stages the game was of a very ragged nature, and nothing m the way of connected movements was seen. Each side attacked in turn, but lack of finish saw any promising movement come to nought until Belfield (University) failed to intercept a passi from Technical s right-wing, and Grant (Technical) had a clear shot, with which he made no mistake Technical 1, University nil Half time was called without further incident. Technical attacked immediately aftei the resumption, but they found the defence too strong, and before long the students were' on the attack. Harris and Bond were defending well for Technical, however, and frustrated University s efforts time and again until the students forced a corner, from which Belfield scored with a smart shot. University 1, Technical 1. University continued to press, and after a time, Betting, who had been doing solid work on the left wing, scored. Univerisity 2, Technical 1. tor the greater part of the remainder of the game University had Technical on the defence, and several times, when the Pj a y vas practically in the goal mouth, Pickup, the Technical goalkeeper, relibved the position when it seemed that nothing could prevent a goal. The game had now brightened up considerably, but opportune ties were still being missed, and try as 'they would neither side could add to the score, with which the game ended: Univei’sity A 2 goals. Technical Old Boys .. 1 goal. Messrs D. Woodfield and A. Chapman were the- referees. ALBANY v. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS B The game betwen Albany and High School Old Boys’ B, which was played at Oval No. 2, resulted m a win for the former by 7 goals to 1. of a one-sided nature, but had Old Bo\ s had a stronger goalkeeper the score would doubtless not have been so large. Messrs* W. M'Queen and H. Sew Hoy were the referees. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS A v. BALCLUTHA Played at Balclutha, the game between High School Old Boys’ A and the local team resulted in a win for the visitors by 3 goals to nil. The ground was m good condition. An unfortunate accident occurred in the first spell, when iiedler. who had forsaken the Old Boys goal tor the forward lino, was struck on the nose by an opposing player's stick. .His injury is fairly serious, and it is anticipated that it will keep him out of the game for the remainder of the season. Old Boys played for the rest of the game with 10 men, and then, early in the second half, U. Gun- strained a leg muscle. He went back into goal, and Penny, one of the fullbacks, took his place in the half-line, leaving F. Brebner alone in the full-back line. Goals were scored for Old Boys by Gallon (2) and Martin. Mr J. P. Northey was the referee. SECOND GRADE. High School Old Boys Colts 2, Caversham Presbyterian 1. ' . Technical Old Boys 6, University D 1. University C 1, Albany 1. THIRD GRADE. ' LADIES* GAMES MOMONA v. DUNEDIN. Playing on Oval No. 3, Dunedin were unlucky to lose to. Momona. They commenced three players short, but juniors later filled the ranks and played well. Momona had all the better of the first spell, but offside spoiled their efforts. The first spell ended: Momona 3. Dunedin 1. Dunedin played better in the second spell, and the Momona defence was anything but sound. Spirited dashes by Dunedin brought their reward, and Momona added two goals. The final score was; Momona 5 goals. Dunedin .... .. 4 goals. Mr D. Miller was the referee. TECHNICAL OLD GIRLS v. HIGH SCHOOL. Technical Old Girls and High School met on Oval No. 2, and a very evenlycontested game resulted in a win for the former. The High School team, although playing well, could not finish off their efforts, and Technical (showing improved form) kept the defence very busy. The final stages were very even, and Technical won by 2 goals to 1. Mr J. Gray was the referee. OTAGO v. UNIVERSITY. The game between Otago and University was played on Oval No. 1, which was on the heavy side. From the bully off Otago were on the attack, but Miss Mitchell was very solid in defence. Both teams were a little over-anxious, thus causing a lot of unnecessary obstruction. From a good passing movement Miss Parker scored for Jtago. This reverse spurred University on, but Otago’s defence was very sound, especially Miss A. Mackie, who played her'best game of the season. Just before half time Miss Blagdon scored, giving the goal-keeper no chance to save. University forced the pace in the second spell, but they did not seem able to finish off their movements. The game was very fast at this stage, and Miss Raines scored for University. This helped to put more vim into University’s play, but Otago were not to be denied, and Miss Kane scored a smart goal. A good game ended: Otago 3 goals. University 1 goal. Messrs R. S. Wallace and T. Bradshaw were the referees. B GRADE. Technical Old Girls 3, Otago 2. Dunedin 6, Technical College 2.
