THE NEW ZEALAND LEGION

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —A second glowing and exaggerated report of the New Zealand Legion’s meeting in Kurow appears in to-day’s paper. The residents of Kurow are getting no small amount of amusement from the legion’s endeavour to convey to the otuside world that Kurow is a veritable hotbed of legionism. Of course we know why it ig desired to convey this impression, but no doubt residents in other districts have no difficulty in seeing through this thinly-veiled piece of propaganda. As for answering questions, our oldest resident showed that he had a broad and comprehensive grasp of the governmental machine in the two questions which he asked and which the legion speakers so far have not answered. But then probably the statement that the questions were completely and convincingly replied to was meant for sarcasm.—l am, etc., • Merely Amused. Kurow, June 6. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In reply to the letter from “ Admirer ” in to-day’s paper, I would like to say that Mr MacKenzie is not the man for the legion at all. I have not joined the legion, and do not intend to do so unless it chooses the best candidate possible. The man who has done more for the legion than anyone else up here, and the man whom we have to thank for the good addresses, is Mr Norman Hayes. He has had a long and distinguished record on the local bodies, and is a man very highly respected in this district. He is a man with a big stake in the country, and can be relied upon to do hie best for New Zealand. —I am, etc., Kurow, June 7. Real Admirer.
